Amarnath Yatra registration begins | | | early times report Jammu, May 7: The much awaited registration for the annual Shri Amarnath Yatra starting from June 25, commenced in this winter capital of the state today. 'One hundred seventy four branches of various banks across the country started registering pilgrims for the yatra, which will commence from June 25 from both Baltal and Pahalgam routes and culminate on Raksha Bandhan which falls on August 2,' an official said here. He said, 'there are 121 designated branches of Jammu and Kashmir Bank, 49 of Yes Bank and four of district Cooperative Banks registering the pilgrims." 'Each bank has been allotted a quota of 2,54,485 lakh pilgrims registration and every day 280 pilgrims will be registered through the bank's various branches,' the official added. 'Registration will be served on first come first basis,' he said. Meanwhile, one Ujwal Sharma, became the first person to get registered for the pilgrimage at the registration centre established at Exhibition Ground here. 'For the last seven years, I am getting myself registered on number one as I am visiting the cave shrine for the past ten years,' he told reporters. Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) conducting the Yatra, has made it mandatory to undertake Yatra only through Permit, which will be issued on the submission of requisite documents and payment of handling charges of Rs 15 per pilgrim.
