Pawan Hans carries Vaishno Devi pilgrims as Global Vectra's service scrapped | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 8 : Vaishno Devi pilgrims having advance booking with Global Vectra's Helicopter Service today faced tough time following suspension of the operating permit of the firm while the Pawan Hans Helicopter Service carried the pilgrims to 'Sanjhi Chat' Helipad situated in Trikuta Hills of mountainous Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) yesterday suspended the operating permit of private helicopter firm Global Vectra Helicorp Limited whose promoter Ravi Rishi is under the CBI scanner in the controversial Tatra truck deal with the army. The Home Ministry withdrew its security clearance and recommended to the Civil Aviation Ministry to annul the non-scheduled operator permit (NSOP) of the company. "The pilgrims, who already had their advance booking with the firm, this morning faced hard time due to the suspension of the service," sources here said. They alleged that as there was no intimation regarding suspending the service, the firm despite running into the controversy, booked the Vaishno Devi pilgrims. "As the Pawan Hans Helicopter Service is already operating from Katra to Sanjhi Chhat, the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDB) has asked the firm to also carry the pilgrims having advance booking with suspended operator," sources added. They said the Pawan Hans chopper today operated over 100 flights and carried about 1100 pilgrims from Katra to Bhawan and vice versa. With a fleet of 23 choppers, the Global Vectra flies onshore and offshore operations for oil companies, besides catering to tourist travels in the Northeast and operating chopper flights to major shrines like Vaishno Devi and during Amarnath Yatra. Pawan Hans, which has 45 helicopters, was asked to operate additional flights to meet the vacuum created by the suspension of Global Vectra's operations. |
