Govt employees stage protest across state

Jammu, May 8: A large number of employees from different government departments under the banner of Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) , an amalgam of various employee unions in Jammu and Kashmir, staged protest demonstrations as a part of activities of two day long Tool Down (Kaam Choro) Strike at various district headquarters of the state. The main protest was held outside at Press Club Jammu where the protestors staged a protest demanding release of 6th Pay Commission
arrears, and raising of retirement age to 60. Other demands include regularization of adhoc and other temporary employees, and redressal of pay anomalies in different cadres. Addressing the protesters prominent trade unionists Ram Kumar Sharma and Mohd Gafoor Dar warned the State Govt not to test the patience of employees and settle the agreed demands viz. enhancement of retirement age 58 to 60 years, regularization of daily wagers and adhoc workers, removal of pay anomalies of various cadres. Earlier employees of various departments marched towards the Press Club Jammu where Kulwant Singh, Amrik Singh, Ganesh Khajuria, Balwan Singh Jamwal, Shahid Hussain, Arun Moza, Babu Hussain Malik, Hari Singh, Molvi Nazir Ahmed, Rohit George, Deva Nand Gil also addressed the gathering of the employees and highlighted the demands of the employees seeking their early redressal. Speakers said a complete strike was observed in all the Govt Deptts and public sectors corporations completely affecting the govt work in the office and educational institutions and in support of their demands including implementation of agreement signed with the JCC on September 15. Reports reaching from all the district headquarters of Jammu region indicates full response to the strike call under the banner of JCC and employees in various office complexes and raised slogan in support of their demands. The strike employees condemned the delaying policies of state govt which has totally failed to uphold its commitments as per agreement. After concluding the rally delegation of leadership of JCC from Jammu left for Srinagar for participation in the 'Civil Secretariat Gherao' on May 9.
