Ban on tinted glass in J&K: Vehicles carrying VIPs, VVIPs exempted
5/9/2012 12:33:58 AM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 8: The Jammu and Kashmir High Court recently imposed a ban on the use of tinted glasses and black films but the vehicles carrying VIPs and VVIPs have reportedly been exempted from the directions.
The vehicles of VIPs and VVIPs including politicians, police officers and other top ranked personnel have not been included in the ban on use of tinted vehicles, sources here today said.
"In view of security reasons, the VIPs including the politicians, police officers and others, who are having 'Z Plus' security have not been included in the ban imposed by the court," Manmohan Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic Jammu said. Singh further added that those having security up to 'Y' category, have been exempted adding, "further course of action is to be decided by the Government." Police in this winter capital have tightened noose against the vehicles with tinted glass and black films running frequently. "About 10-15 films are being removed daily from the vehicles at different check points," DySP Mukesh Kakkar-SDPO South said. He added that even the vehicles carrying permissions of using the black films, are also not being spared to avoid any untoward incident. The High Court recently banned use of tinted glasses and black films on vehicles in the interest of the civil society.
The civil society has questioned the right of many so-called VVIPs and VIPs who have been carrying family members and even ferrying cooking gas cylinders in vehicles with tinted glass and black film.
It is precisely because of the permission to use tinted glass and black film so that occupants are not identified that the blatant misuse of such vehicles has become possible in the city, allege members of the civil society in the city. "Rule for one should be rule for all especially when the permission is misused for reasons other than security", said a member of the civil society.
