Dy CM lauds efforts for organizing 'Sanskar Shala'

Srinagar, May 9: Laying stress on promoting value education among students, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand said traditional value system and moral education are pillars of age old Indian society.
He said value loaded teaching needs to be encouraged among youngsters for laying foundation of a strong value based society. Ethics and good manners carve better person out of an individual and children being citizens of tomorrow must make them an integral part of their personality, he added.
Tara Chand was addressing the gathering at a function organized on culmination of "Sanskar Shala"- a campaign started by Dainik Jagran newspaper for promotion of moral values among youngsters, here today.
He was chief guest on the occasion.
The function was jointly organized by the Dainik Jagran daily and Guru Nanak College of Education, Jallo Chack.
Various schools participated in the Sanskar Shala, prominent among which are - Sri Guru Gobind Singh Higher Secondary School, M.V International School and Army Public School, Kaluchak. APS Kaluchak won the over all trophy.
Among others, Former Secretary, Cultural Academy Ramesh Mehta, Chairperson, Guru Nanak College of Education Prof. Hanbans Singh, Group Editor, Dainik Jagran Abhimanyu Sharma and a galaxy of intellectuals, educationists, prominent citizens and students attended the event.
Lauding efforts of Dainik Jagran, the Deputy Chief Minister said such events go a long way in promoting secular and tradition values in the society, adding that such campaigns should be organized on routine basis and more and more colleges and schools should participate in these.
He said media is fourth pillar of the society and has an important role to play. He said media acts as a bridge between the Government and the people and brings to fore various issues and matters of concern affecting people at large.
"Our Nation is developing at fast pace and we are one of the biggest economy of the world but unfortunately our age old Sanskarsare getting neglected in this fast pace of modern times; everybody has to introspect on this topic and find a way to promote our rich traditions and centuries old moral values," he maintained.
Mehta in his speech laid stress on reversing the declining trend of moral education in present times.
He said the campaign of Dainik Jagran - Shiksha Se Sabhyta is need of the hour and moral values need to be promoted at all levels in the society.
News Editor Arun Chowdhary welcomed the guests and addressed the gathering.
Harbans Singh presented vote of thanks and threw light on the role of traditional value system of Indian society.
