"Prime govt land encroached at Jatwal Adda, shops constructed" | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 9: A prime piece of Government land, close to the National Highway on Jatwal Adda (bus stand)-Naran road, was alleged to have been encroached by a family. The market value of the nearly 1.2 kanal land, which actually belongs to PWD, was estimated at crores of rupees. The alleged encroachers have constructed at least seven to eight shops there. In reply to a Right to Information (RTI) application filed by a local with the office of Assistant Commissioner (revenue), Samba, it was revealed that 4-5 ft of land (under khasra No 787) on the left of Jatwal Adda-Naran road stood encroached. A legal action against the encroachers was, however, yet awaited. The RTI activist said Numberdar Chhajju Ram (now dead) actually ran a chabeel of cold water on the land where shops had been constructed now. He later allegedly constructed a thatched hut on the land to show his possession. He said as the time passed, Chhajju allegedly constructed three double-storey shops and a single-storey shop on the land. Though the matter was brought to the notice of police and other concerned agencies, no action was taken, he added. The activist said more shops were allegedly constructed on the land by Chhajju's grandson after his death. |
