Jagti Township a concentration camp: Chrungoo | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 10 : Panun Kashmir has expressed serious concern over the prolonged power cuts in the Jagti Township of the Kashmiri Pandits internally displaced community. An emergency meeting chaired by Dr.Ajay Chrungoo extended support to the aggrieved inmates of the township who are inconvenienced due to uninterrupted 16-18 hour long power cuts every day. Terming the unjustified power cuts as onslaught on the basic rights of the Kashmiri Pandits living in Jagti, Chrungoo said it was an act of intimidation. By forcing the inmates to sign the agreement is a gross human rights violation. By shifting to the Jagti, the status of the internally displaced Kashmiri Pandit refugees has not changed. "On the one hand government says that it is going to enhance the cash assistance of the KPs, thus acknowledging the refugee status of the community and on the other hand it wants the inmates to pay the bills by signing the agreement. This is ironical. It is a sinister move to create a fear psychosis among the community members", he said. Expressing dismay over the developments, Chrungoo said, " By indulging in prolonged power cuts the administration is playing with the career of the school going and college going students as it affects their education. Thus the government is violating the right to education of the community. The administration is resorting to the situation akin to the conditions that were prevalent in the Jewish concentration camps..Instead of being the refugee settlement Jagti has been turned into a Kashmiri Pandit concentration camp" He further said" In this hour of grave crisis Panun Kashmir lends its support to the brethren of Jagti and will stand by them shoulder to shoulder for their .just struggle." |
