Security being upgraded for upcoming Amarnath yatra

Jammu, May 10 : Atleast 25 companies of police were being deployed for yatra duty right from Jammu, the base camp for ensuing annual Amarnath pilgrimage to the holy cave.
Official sources said that these police companies were to coordinate their activities with the CRPF companies that were bing deployed for providing security cover to the pilgrims.Sources said that the union Home Ministry has agreed to send 74 additional companies of CRPF for the yatra duty. Sources said that in addition to this four to five companies of Army would be deployed, days before the commencement of the yatra,in and around the holy cave for sanitising the mountain belt against any explosives and IEDS that may have been planted by the militants.
In case there was need 10 more companies of state police would be delpoyed for the yatra.In all there would be 100 to 120 companies of CRPF , police and Army, deployed for the yatra.
Sources said that the police Department has been asked to keep a leet of vans,buses and trucks,well oiled and serviced, ready for the security personnel who would be escorting caravans of pilgrims from Jammu to Pahalgam. Reports said that on every day,during the yatra period, the batches of yatris would have to leave Jammu before 6.30 A.M. so that they enjoyed a hassle free journey on the highway, linking Jammu with Srinagar, because by that time normal non-pilgrim passenger traffic may not have started on the highway. According to these reports, those pilgrims, travelling by their cars and vans, may not be allowed to proceed to Pahalgam if they reached Jammu in the afternoon. They would be asked to stay for the night in the state's winter capital and start their journey early next morning. As far as the road opening exercise is concerned the t ask was being entrusted to the CRPF.
Reports said that groups of troops may be engaged in the road opening programme on the highyway between Udhampur and Banihal which is considered highly sensitive belt. On this belt CRPF,Police and Army pickets were being set up to prevent militants from disrupting the pilgrimage.
