Early Times Report
Jammu, May 10: Criticizing Omar Abdullah led coalition regime for undermining democratic institutions in State, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today said that the present regime was trying to capture all democratic institutions through illegal means. In a statement issued here today, former Rajya Sabha member and vice president of PDP, Sardar Trilok Singh Bajwa said that anger was fueling among Panchayats members due to denial of constitutional rights to them but the government is not serious to solve their genuine issue.
He mentioned that majority of the Sarpanches and Panches have refused to accept Rs one lakh announced by the State Government for the Panchayats. He said that majority of the Panchayat members are also not participating the government functions because they are annoyed with delay in their empowerment. The PDP leader said that those demanding greater autonomy for the State are hesitating even to delegate powers to the duly elected Panchayats.
He further added that almost one year has been passed since the elections were held but neither block nor district committees have been constituted. Tirlok said that elections of Urban Local Bodies were scheduled to be held in the month of February 2010 but the government has been postponing these elections with one or other excuse. He flayed the coalition regime for not fulfilling its promises to conducting local body elections. The government had announced to complete the process of local bodies elections by the end of April this year but process in this regard is yet to be started and the month of April has already passed.
