Favouritism ruling roost in SKIMS
`Doctors reduced to paramedics'
5/10/2012 11:43:17 PM
Bashir Assad
Srinagar, May10: With noted doctors assigned the job of paramedics, the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) , the only tertiary care hospital in Kashmir is losing its sheen.
Insiders said a particular group treats the hospital as their personal property. Dr. Riyaz Rangrez Deputy Medical Superintendent who is from hospital administration has been given additional charge of Material Management, a post being held by paramedical stream.
Similarly Dr. GH Ittu, who also comes from hospital administration, has been given the additional charge of head of the pharmacy in clear violation of the rules.
What is even more shocking is the fact that Dr. Ajaz Mustafa has been made in-charge Laundry faculty and Dr. Farooq Jan has been given the charge of Purchases and Medical Record. The move has infringed the rights of the eligible officials, sources said.
Since the retirement of Principal Medical College SKIMS (Soura) and its Chief of Material Management (CMM), the college has, in effect, been rendered leaderless. No appropriate arrangement has been made so far to run the administrative affairs of the college. And surprisingly doctors whose services would have been utilized for patient-care have been given the assignments of paramedics and administrative affairs. In fact additional charges have been given to a selected group of doctors who are close to the Director.
As far as the patient-care is concerned, the hospital administration has raised the fee which is being realized from the patients. Rate for PFT has been enhanced from Rs. 20 to 110; similarly patients have to pay Rs 150 for Cougulograme test which was being done for Rs 30.
For HBA1C patients have to pay 150 instead of 50 and for Urine culture will cost 150 which is hundred rupees more. ERCP has gone from Rs 300 to 1100 rupees while as dialysis is now Rs 400 costlier than what it was earlier.
