Soz calls for rejuvenating telecom services in Kashmir hinterland

JAMMU, May 11: Calling upon to rejuvenate telecom services in hinterland of Kashmir including Machil, Gurez, Tulail, Keran and Karnah areas, which are presently facing hardships due to non-existence of postal and telecommunication facilities.
Raising the issue in Rajya Sabha during the question hour today, Pradesh Congress Committee president and Member of Parliament Prof Saifuddin Soz said that non-existent postal and telecommunication services in Machil, Gurez, Tulail, Keran and Karnah due to which the people in these areas are facing great hardships.
Prof Soz further said that Mobile service is non-existent in these areas and even Land Line Service is in great disarray. The Army is helping people in these areas but that is not enough. Prof. Soz wanted to know whether the Union Telecommunication Minister Kapil Sibal would be prepared to devise a special scheme to improve telecommunication service in these areas.
Replying to the query, Sibal said that Prof Soz was right in saying that special stress be laid for these areas where postal and other services are not efficient.
Minister assured Prof Soz that he would advise his Department to look at the Mail Network Optimization Program me which should be taken up early through which all Mail Operation and standardization processes for Mail Delivery and Transmission would be completed.Sibal further assured the House that he would pay a special attention not only to J&K but also to the North East. Prof Soz has decided to follow the matter with Ministry andensure efficient provision of the telecom services to these areas.
