NPSU demands ST status for Paharis

Early Times Report

Jammu , May 11: Recognising the identity of the Gujjar and Pahari United Front, National Panthers Students Union (NPSU) urged upon the State and Union Government to accept the just demands of the Gujjar and Pahari community by granting ST status to Paharis and reserve some seats in State Legislature for Gujjar community by providing them political reservation.
Addressing a meeting of NPSU held at party office its president Partap Singh Jamwal said that recommendation to this effect was made to the Government of India by the JKNPP through its Delhi Declaration resolution during the year 2009. Jamwal said that the Gujjar and Pahari communities were in majority in the State before 1947 and the month of October in 1947 is considered the black chapter in the history of the subcontinent and particularly of Jammu and Kashmir State when some vested interest elements of the State intrigued and invited Pakistan to invade Kashmir under a well hatched criminal conspiracy. This invasion not only divided the State into two parts but sowed the irreparable seeds of hatred in the hearts and minds of the lakhs of people in the entire State especially in the hearts of Gujjar and Pahari communities.
He elaborated that after the criminal conspiracy of 1947 another conspiracy was hatched by the Kashmiri leadership to further void the gap between Gujjar and Pahari by giving ST status to Gujjar community only.
Jamwal demanded for re-opening all the old routes connecting both parts of the State (PoK and JK) for which Panthers Party had already succeeded in organising intra J&K heart to heart talks between the leadership of both parts of the State at Jammu and Delhi.
On the occasion Partap Singh Jamwal announced a Pahari Unit for which Syed Zeshan Haider appointed as President, Sheikh Abdul Rashid as Gen. Secy, Danyal Pathan as Secy and Alyas Khwaja as Joint Secy.
