Sarpanch assaults teacher for filing RTI

Jammu, May 11: A government school teacher was allegedly assaulted by some unidentified persons after he had filed RTI application against Naib Sarpanch and his brother seeking information about the details of expenditure spent for construction of road from Prem Nagar to Parnote on the road.
"The application was filed to Block Development Officer (BDO) Thathri -Doda by RTI activist namely Bhag Singh Kotwal of Parnote District Doda, a Master in Govt Higher Secondary School Kandhote, said sources, further adding that the victim has filed a complaint to the concerned police in this matter. In his police complaint, RTI activist and victim has alleged that earlier also both Naib Sarpanch and his brother used to threatened him of dire consequences if he fails to withdraw his application. Complainant further has stated that while he was on way to his house, he was intercepted by the duo (mentioned above) and after hot arguments they assaulted him. Thathri Police after registering a case against the culprits had started the investigation. Meanwhile RTI activists included Balvinder Singh Convener Sangarsh RTI Movement along with other members which includes Raman Sharma, Senior Advocate Sheikh Shakeel, Advocate Diwakar Singh and Advocate Vilakshan Singh advocate demand immediate intervention of the Chief Information Commission (CIC) and the state government in this regard and also demanded that both State government and the commission should ensure safety and security of the RTI user in the State because both are the custodian of this law.
