SASB, Hindu bodies ready for major showdown this time again | Amarnath yatra 2012 | | early times report JAMMU, May 11: Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) and Hindu bodies are running for a major showdown with later firm on its decision to run the parallel yatra to holy cave of Swami Amarnath Ji in deep Himalayas on Jesht Purnima falling on June 4. Intensifying their campaign to run the parallel yatra the Hindu bodies led by VHP have asked the Board not to interfere in duration and schedule date of starting yatra as the decision in this regard can only be taken by the religious organizations. They made it clear that come what may the VHP supported by Bajrang Dal, Sadhu Samaj and other Hindu organizations are committed to run the parallel yatra on June 4 in case the SASB does not change its decision on duration of yatra. Supporting the VHP move the Sadhu Samaj today urged the SASB not to interfere in the yatra duration and its date. Mahant Yogeshwar Nath Ji, Sant Mohan Bharti and Mahant Kailash Nath Ji, Parmanand Ji and Angoor Nath Ji while talking to reporters here today said that the Board has no locus standi in deciding the yatra date as this issue should be left to Hindu religious bodies to decide. They said the Board should only look after the arrangements and create facilities for the pilgrims and any interference in yatra date and duration will be fraught with serious consequences. The Sadhus while extending whole hearted support to VHP which has warned to run the parallel yatra on June 3 from Jammu to holy cave and defy the SASB decision to start the yatra on June 25 said it is solidly behind VHP decision. Meanwhile former convener of Shri Amarnath Sangarsh Samiti (SASS) Leela Karan has also opposed the curtailment of yatra duration by 20 days and said that this will in no way be tolerated. The Jammuites had run a two month long battle for restoration of land to Amarnath shrine in 2008 and they will not tolerate any interference in the yatra duration this time also. He while fully endorsing the VHP decision to run parallel yatra on June 3 said that yatra should start from traditional date of Jesht Purnima and there should be no alteration in the date. It may be recalled that Bajrang Dal had also endorsed VHP decision to run parallel yatra on June 3 from Jammu saying that 20,000 BD activists will reach here on June 2 to leave for holy cave on June 3 to have first darshan of Icy Lingam on the auspicious day of Jesht Purnima. To reiterate its commitment VHP leader Nand Kishore Mishra said that a team of 100 volunteers of the organization will have at and on spot study of both the tracks from Nunwan to holy cave and Baltal to Sangam on May 13. This will be followed by holding of a Hindu sameelan at Jammu on May 20 which among others will be addressed senior VHP leader Ashok Singhal, he added. With SASB also sticking to its stand to start the yatra officially on June 25 shows that both Board and Hindu bodies are on confrontation path leading to a serious controversy on the Amarnath yatra this time again.
