| Why should people support BJP? | | JK Bank & Jammu Youth | | Early Times Report
jammu, May 11: Resent is brewing among the Jammu youth. The reason is that the NC-Congress coalition Government is ignoring them and preferring the already rather privileged Kashmiri youth. What has added to their anger and frustration more is the manner in which the Jammu and Kashmir Bank treated them and accorded a preferential treatment to the Kashmiri youth.
The case in point is the selection of 1300 Kashmiri candidates, as against just 300 from Jammu province for various positions in the Jammu and Kashmir Bank. It happened only very recently. It was yet another glaring instance of gross discrimination with the Jammu where the rate of unemployment was already very high as compared to Kashmir. The rate of unemployment in Jammu province was, according to an official estimate, over 69 per cent, as against less than 30 per cent in Kashmir. It is a different story that the State rulers claim day in and day out that they have handed down to the people of the State a system that doesn't discriminate between the regions and that treats the people of all the three regions equally at all levels and in all spheres.
The ignored and discriminated Jammu youth felt somewhat relieved when the State BJP raised this issue in and outside the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly some five weeks ago immediately after the list of selected candidates was made public by the biased Jammu and Kashmir Bank authorities. They had expressed the hope that the parties like the BJP would force the State Government to ask the concerned authorities to undo the wrong they committed by rejecting the applicants from Jammu province. But very soon they realized that the BJP was not committed to what it said in and outside the Assembly regarding the shabby treatment meted out to the Jammu youth.
In fact, a number of the candidates from Jammu province expressed the view that they committed a serious mistake by pining faith in the BJP leadership. Some of them even went to the extent of asking as to why the people of Jammu province should support a party that had little or no regard for the interests of the people of Jammu province. A few of them even went to the extent of saying that a party which could not obtain justice for the ignored and humiliated Jammu youth just cannot be trusted when it says that it would ensure full merger of the State with India by defeating the Kashmiri leadership and their henchmen in Jammu. Significantly, they expressed similar views on the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP), saying that the BJP and the JKNPP were just incompetent and the leadership of both these parties was simply taking recourse to petty politics to promote its own interests by remaining on the right side of the ruling coalition.
It is extremely unlikely that the parties like the BJP would change its style of functioning and make common cause with the people of Jammu province like the Kashmiri leaders of all hues make with the people of Kashmir. It's a poor reflection on the BJP leadership as well as leadership of the JKNPP. |
