SIC finds queries unpalatable, leaves podium | | | Early Times Report kathua, May 12 : State Information Commissioner S.K Sharma left the discussion on Right to Information (RTI) in between, after he was irked by repeated queries by the participants in a seminar organized by J&K Confederation of Voluntary Social & Charitable Organization Jammu, in collaboration with J&K State Information Commission in the premises of R.S Jagriti Niketan School Kathua. The Commissioner presented the academic version of the act and didn't speak on the problems being faced by the applicants. In fact when one participant asked about the safety of the activists, the commissioner replied by saying, "Well, you have to take risk while doing all these activities". He tried to abdicate his responsibilities either on the legislature or the police regarding various challenges facing the activists. Deputy Commissioner Kathua Zahidha Khan was conspicuous by her absence. She was supposed to be the presiding dignitary. H.N Ticku, president of the federation was also present and delivered the welcome speech. The other speakers included Atul Goel SSP Kathua, Dr Indu Amia, an expert who was articulate and moderated the tempers. S. Balvinder Singh gave a detailed account of effective usage of RTI. Sh. Raman Sharma spoke on powers and duties of officers and appeal in judiciary. Daya Sagar dealt with the inspection of documents and authorities covered under the act. Updesh Andotra took an active role in organizing the seminar. The vote of thanks was delivered by Sh. Ravi Shankar Raina, principal R.S Jagriti Niketan School Kathua. Students from various institutions were also present and participated in the seminar. |
