Fresh snowfall on upper reaches in valley | | | Early Times Report srinagar, May 12 : The entire Kashmir valley is under the grip of severe cold, forcing people to wear woollen and warm clothes, because of fresh snowfall on upper reaches and moderate to heavy rains in the plains, including summer capital, Srinagar. Fresh snowfall was also experienced on all heights in the city outskirts, resulting in drop in the minimum and maximum temperature again. Upper heights in Harwan, about 22 km from here, had turned white because of fresh snowfall, clearly visible from a distance, including Tailbal and Shalimar. A Met department spokesman said the minimum temperature has dropped in the valley, where light to moderate rain or thundershowers would occur during the next 24 hours. He said Srinagar recorded 9.8 mm rainfall till 0830 hrs resulting drop in the minimum temperature again. Against yesterdays 11 degrees celsius, it was 9 degrees this morning, a notch below normal. The upper heights in world famous ski resort of Gulmarg also experienced fresh snowfall, resulting two degree drop in the minimum temperature this morning when it was 0.8 degrees, more than three degree below normal. However, Gulmarg ski slopes had rains. |
