Sonia's assertion on unity in Cong begins from J&K | Re structured PCC to have functionaries from both factions | | Early Times Report jammu, May 12: As a sequel to Congress president Sonia Gandhi's assertion three days back on need to have total discipline and unity in the rank and file of party, the High Command has begun this exercise from J&K where Pradesh Congress Committee has been reeling under the factional fight attempting to cement the ties by bringing on board people from both the factions in the restructured PCC. Even as names of new office bearers and the executive have been approved early this week, it would be formally announced soon by the High Command. Sources in the party said that while Prof Saif-u-Din Soz's re-nomination as PCC chief is almost through, the High Command has also shortlisted from the panel of the names for new face of J&K PCC as office bearers and its executive body for the next term. The new panel, sources said shall have the leaders and functionaries who have been exhibiting and expressing their loyalties to either of factions with Prof Soz and Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad as their 'Godfathers'. The restructured PCC is likely to have some new faces as well, some leaders associated with the party for a long time, albeit distancing from factional fight by trying to be neutral with the neutral with both the stalwarts, sources added. The underlying message of this endeavour to bring on board people from both the factions where loyalties towards Azad or Soz rein supreme, by the High Command is to show and percolate this down the hierarchy of the PCC is that party can no longer afford to remain divided in factions or camps, no matter both the factions remain committed to the party and high command. On account of factional war going on for quite some years within J&K PCC and Congress unit as a whole, the party has remained a loser and non beneficiary on many fronts, even in matters of accruing rightful share as alliance partner in the ruling coalition. While Party President asserted and made it loud and clear that unity and complete discipline would be the only line party has to follow in spirit in all the States, move that is aimed to consolidate and strengthen the party for ensuing elections, the High Command has rightly so made the beginning and taken such a step in J&K in order to forge unity at all levels within the party. Sources said the slogan of 'united face' echoed by some leaders lately in the rallies and at other forums is a measure being seen as necessity by the high command for making political gains for all elections, particularly the general polls in 2014 and the elections in J&K and other States. |
