NSF demands action against Minister, others in housing scam

jammu, May 13: National Secular Forum activists held a protest demonstration in University Campus today, demanding strict action against those found involved in the alleged multi-crore scam in Jammu and Kashmir Cooperative Housing Corporation and demanded immediate resignation of cooperatives minister in view of notice issued against him by SAC in multi crore Cooperative Housing scam. Addressing the protesters led by National Secular Forum (NSF) state Vice-President Sukdev Singh demanded action against the erring Ministers and officials. "Nobody should be secure, however highly he may be placed in the Government," he said. The State Accountability Commission (SAC) issued notice to Congress leader and Cooperatives Minister Manohar Lal Sharma, Cooperatives Commissioner Abdul Hamid Wani, and Registrar-Cooperatives Moha-mmad Abbas in connection with the alleged scam. The action by the state's top anti-graft body came following a complaint by Farooq Ahmed Dar of Kashmir and Sunil Sharma of Jammu. The complainants alleged that a probe revealed that Rs.5, 000 crore had been embezzled by former managing director of the corporation, Brij Mohan Sharma, and present MD Bharat Bhu-shan. It was alleged that the two managing directors along with assistant registrar-Cooperatives Moha-mmad Shafi Dar had misappropriated crores of rupees, but no action was taken against them by the Minister, official he said. It was also alleged that Arun Bakshi, retired managing director of Jammu Central Cooperative Bank Limited, was "still interfering in the bank's operations". It has also been mentioned in the complaint that about 600 illegal backdoor appointments have been made in the banks at the behest of Minister/ officers and S S Slathia, Minister for Industries and Commerce. "These ministers and officers have earned money from these backdoor appointments", the complaint said. Singh added SAC chairperson Justice YP Nargotra and member Justice Hakim Imtiyaz Hussain observed that a case already stood registered in the matter with the vigilance organization. It also asked the vigilance organization to inform the commission about the present status of the case. Among those who were present in the protest included, Narinder Singh, Sanjeev Ku mar, Chaman Singh, Balveer Kumar, Sunil Kumar, Pardeep Sharma and others.
