Work going on snail’s pace | Migrant Quarters at Kupwara | | early times report
SRINAGAR, May 13; The State Government has drawn a flak for its callousness towards the displaced Pandits in general and newly appointed employees under PM's package in particular. Lambasting the Government's apathy towards the displaced Pandits the leaders of various KP organizations accuse the Government of possessing a discriminatory attitude towards the community in general. The Government is delaying the appointment process under PM's employment package to sabotage the same and despite its assurances given to National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) the Government has failed to implement the package in letter and spirit, said Kundan Kashmiri president Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC). He said among the 3000 posts to be appointed under Central sponsorship only 1500 appointments have been made since 2008 after Dr Manmohan Singh announced the package at Jammu, he said adding moreover these employees lack facilities in Kashmir Valley as Government has failed to take initiative in this regard. The employees who joined their duties in Valley lack accommodation facilities and three to four persons have been asked tos hare the accommodations at Vessu, Mattan, Haal, Sheikhpora and Baramulla. While the employees serving in remote Kupwara district are without facilities of quarters, he added. Though the construction work of 60 quarters for Pandit employees at Natnusa in Kupwara district was started in 2009 is yet to complete. This shows the complete negligence of concerned authorities towards the KP Employees, he said . Moreover these quarters are insufficient to accommodate over 200 employees and after some more candidates get selected from the rest 3000 posts which are in pipe line, there will be a total hue and cry due to lack of accommodation. Though the Relief organization constructed quarters on priority basis in other districts it neglected Kupwara which otherwise was given priority being a remote area as employees appointed here needed to be accommodated at a secure place, said Ramesh Kumar an activist of Kashmiri Samaj. He said it is unfortunate that the work started on construction of 60 quarters in 2009 has not been completed so far and same is going at snail's pace. He alleged employees in this remote district are directly or indirectly ignored by the relief agency by one reason or the other.
