Traffic police ensure jam free Amarnath yatra | 30 points identified for installing traffic signal lights: Lohia | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 13: Traffic police has made sufficient arrangements for Amarnath ji yatra to ensure smooth and jam free vehicular movement, said outgoing IG traffic Himat Kumar Lohia, adding restriction on the heavy vehicles to ply on the highway during yatra have been imposed Further, he said traffic signal lights to be installed in Jammu to channelize the vehicular menace very soon. IG Himat Kumar Lohia who informed journalist, in place of newly posted IG Traffic Muneer Khan, during press conference organized here today said that for the purpose some points have been identified, he added. He said that the company whi has installed the traffic lights in Srinagar city has given further contract to do the same job in Jammu and about 30 Chowks have been identified in Jammu where these lights will be installed. Coming heavily he said that tinted glasses, Lohia said that his department has been following the directions of the Supreme Court in which the tinted glass on vehicles were banned. He, however, said that the inbuilt tented glasses on some vehicles are allowed as they are installed by the manufacturing company. Appealing the general awareness among the commuters and change of their attitude, Lohia said, the awareness is must to avoid mishaps. He said that though the department is facing shortage of resources, yet it has done commendable job and transformation since last two years. Referring to the Close Circuit Cameras, the IG Traffic told journalist that traffic department has also been planning to install CCTV cameras in other districts to help cops to streamline the traffic system especially in the mountainous areas. |
