Chaman regrets no mention on dilution of Parliament's authority in JK | Celebration of Lok Sabha's 60 years | |
Early Times Report
RAJOURI, May 14: The former Union Minister and MLA Jammu West Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has endorsed the views of parliamentarians that supremacy of the august body should be maintained but regretted that in this special meet of the Parliament to celebrate 60 years of completion of the existence of Lok Sabha, there was hardly anyone who resented the dilution of its authority in Jammu and Kashmir, which of course is an integral part of the country. Prof Gupta pointed out under Article 370, the powers of the Parliament in J&K have been curtailed. The representatives of this State do form the part of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha like other parts of India, but amazingly the laws enacted by this supreme body do not apply unless approved by the local Government and its legislature. He said the Article 370 granting the so called special status on the face it was a temporary provision but intriguingly it still existed in the statue book even after the expiry of over six decades. This anomalous position has led to several problems rather than providing any good to the people of this unfortunate part of the country, he added and pointed out that some section, of people taking advantage of this status quite often cry for autonomy for themselves. Prof Gupta also regretted that in this special meet of the Parliament there was no mention of the plight of the large number of people who have been rendered refugees and migrants from different parts of the state and also the sufferings of the masses of Pak held areas including those of Gilgit and Baltistan. |
