Two days Kashmir fest at New Delhi
Overseas market for promoting J&K Tourism being explored: Dilawar

Two Days Kashmir Festival at Press Club New Delhi on 17th and 18th of next month is being organized to showcase J&K tourism. The sale and display of world famous handicrafts, horticulture produce, cuisine and diverse cultural heritage of the State would be the main features of the Festival.
This was stated at a meeting of the high level officers of departments of Tourism, Handicrafts, Handlooms, Floriculture, Information, Horticulture and JKTDC.
The Minister for Tourism and Horticulture, Mr. Mohammad Dilawar Mir presided over the meeting.
It was decided that the Tourism department will arrange various stalls where live demonstration of handicrafts like wood carving, crewel, hook work, needle work on Kashmiri Shawl, Basholi paintings will be displayed by the craftsmen from Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir regions. Special stalls for sale and exhibition of horticulture produce like apples, walnut, almonds, cherry, saffron, fruit juices, olive oil from Ramban, Doda and Uri, apricot kernels and apricot oil of Ladakh and different varieties of Kashmiri cuisine including Kashmiri Wazwan prepared by experienced chefs of JKTDC would be set up to satiate tastes and requirements of the visitors.
The Department of Information and Public Relations would present variety cultural programmes to present cultural richness of the state.
The Floriculture department will display various varieties of local as well as exotic varieties of flowers whereas the Tourism department will provide print material and broachers about Tourism destinations of the State and facilities and equipment available for adventure and winter tourism.
It was also informed that Tourism department and the JKTDC would jointly organize 3 days road show at Ahmedabad on 3rd, 4th and 5th of March 2007 to motivate domestic tourists for visit to the State.
Meetings with Travel and Trade Ahmedabad, interaction with press by the J&K Minister for Tourism and concerned officers and presentation of cultural programmes will be the main features of the event.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister called for coordinated efforts to market scenic splendor and rich cultural heritage of the State. He asked the officers to identify more potential places within the country and overseas where Kashmir Festivals and Tourism Marts could be organized to attract foreign tourists for the State adding that magnificent Buddhist Monasteries could be showcased in the overseas like China, South Korea, and Malaysia to promote Tourism in the State.
The Minister said that the Centre has provided a grant of Rs. 37 lakh to JKTDC for organizing Kashmir Marts in the overseas.
The Commissioner Secretary Tourism, Mr. Mehboob Iqbal, Director Tourism, Mr. Farooq Shah, MD JKTDC, Mr. Abdul Aziz Wani, Director information Khawaja Farooq Renzu, Director Horticulture Planning and Marketing, Mr. Showkat Ahmed Zargar, Director Handicrafts, Mr. G.M Qadri, Director Floriculture, Mr. Sharma attended the meeting.
