DGP transfers dowry death case to Crime Branch | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT RAJOURI, May 14: Director General of Police (DGP), Kuldeep Khoda has ordered special investigation of the incident in which a 30 year old lady of Thanamandi tehsil in border district Rajouri was allegedly burnt to death by her in laws a month ago. As the relatives of the deceased were not satisfied with the investigation of case by the local police, they approached DGP with all facts and details few days back and pleaded for fair investigation. Taking serious note of the incident and inaction on the part of police, Kuldeep Khoda vide his order No 1667 of 2012, dated May 10, 2012 has transferred this case to Crime Branch for further investigation with the directions to Rajouri police to hand over all concerned records and CD file to crime branch with immediate effect . Giving details of the case, sources said, about two months back on March 19, one Mehnaz Fatima a 30 year old lady was seen burning in flames by the villagers in the morning hours in village Lah of tehsil Thanamandi in Rajouri district. Hearing her screams, the villagers reached on spot and poured water on her body but till then she had received 95% burn injuries. The lady was shifted to district hospital Rajouri from where doctors referred the case to Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu describing her condition critical. Struggling for 15 days, on April 5 last she lost battle with life. After conducting her post mortem, the body was handed over to her parental family for last rites and was buried in her parental grave yard in Rajdhani village. Unfortunately, police remained totally unnerved with the incident which shook whole of the district till they were forced to register an FIR despite the fact that complaint was made with police on the very first day of the incident. Though police has registered a case in this regard vide FIR NO 33/2012 under section 306/109, however only husband was arrested that too under sever pressure and criticism but gave clean chit to all others who were allegedly part of the conspiracy in the incident. The deceased Mehnaz Fatima was an employee with School Education Department and was posted at Government High School Rajdhani as lab Assistant. The family members of the deceased are of the view that their daughter became victim of the dowry demand by her in-laws. "We paid about five lakh rupees net cash beside other items in the past six years of her marriage as demanded by her in laws. She had no reason to commit suicide. She was a Government employee. She had two cute sons", says her brother Manzoor Ahmed Dar. Mehnaz's family members alleged that her in laws were constantly harassing her during the past six years of her marriage on one pretext or the other. They further alleged that of late Mehnaz's in laws were forcing her to ask her parents to construct a house for them. "We don't believe that she set herself ablaze. In fact she was burnt by her in laws", they added. The matter has also been raised with National Women Commission and they will fight for justice, said Manzoor adding that people who tried to hush up this case would also be exposed. |
