Moungri mela gets underway

udhampur, May 14: A large number of people today arrived at Sar Dabber (Moungri) in Panchari block of district Udhampur on the first day of three day Moungri Mela which commenced today. The Mela was inaugurated by Senior Superintendent of Police, Udhampur, Ashkoor Wani
Additional District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Ram Rattan Sharma also visited the mela site and took stock of arrangements on the spot and issued necessary instructions to the concerned offices for the smooth conduct of mela. He called upon the officers to make their sincere and dedicated efforts to make the general public aware about the different centrally and state governments schemes made especially for the upliftment of rural people.
During the inaugural session, Tehsildar Udhampur (Mela Officer), S.S Chib, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Sukhdev Singh, officers of different departments, Chairman Shiv Parvati Caves Shrine, Advocate Swatantar Dev Kotwal and local mela committee members were present.
People from Bhamag, Panchari, Udhampur, Chenani, Ramnagar of Udhampur District and even from Jammu converge here every year to celebrate the Mela besides paying obeisance to Bhagwan Shiv in a naturally engraved Shiva-Parvati Cave Shrine.
The District Administration has made adequate arrangements of security, transport, medicare, drinking water and power supply during Mela besides asking different departments to install their departmental stalls to make the public aware about various State and centrally sponsored employment oriented, poverty alleviation, agriculture and horticulture related schemes.
Strict checking of rates and quality of eatables is being done in the Mela by team of officers. Youth Services and Sports Department Udhampur is organizing rural sports and cultural activities with the involvement of school students of the area during Mela days.
J & K Indian Style Wrestling Association is also organising a wrestling match at Sar Dabber on 16th May where wrestlers of name and fame from the State and outside are participating.
