Nation forgets to pay tributes to Kaluchak martyrs | Fading Patriotism: | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 14: The 10th martyrdom anniversary of Kaluchak victims remained un-noticed with the authorities failing to commemorate their martyrdom. On May 14, 2002 three fidayeen attacked the family quarters of army personnel killing at least 38 people including minor children in Kaluchak area on the outskirts of Jammu. The crucial day, etched in the memories of lakhs of Indian army men and those who lost their loved ones had passed off just like any other day as no other official ceremony or even prayer meet was organized by the concerned authorities. The entire security grid was exposed by these fidayeen who killed seven passengers on board Himachal Pradesh road transport bus before alighting down near Army gate in Kaluchak. Clad in Army fatigue these fidayeen jumped over the boundary wall of the highly protected area and easily gained access inside the family quarters where they mowed down innocent family members and school going children wearing uniforms, some of them brushing their teeth and enjoying bath. Ironically, the public memory is too short. Everyone has moved on. Even the political parties or other social-religious organizations who miss no opportunity to stay in news failed to remember these martyrs. The attack coming close on the heels of the another fidayeen attack on the Indian Parliament on December 13, 2001, had brought Armies of two neighboring countries within the striking distance within days after the gory incident fueling talks of eminent show of strength in the sub continent. |
