PDP surviving on blame game: Omar | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, May 14: Hitting out at People’s Democratic Party, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today alleged that opposition party is surviving on falsehood and blame game. "Those (PDP leadership) who raised the slogan of healing touch used maximum force against people and converted politics into trade," he told a public gathering after inaugurating a new building of JLNM Hospital at Rainawari here. Omar said the PDP during its tenure had asked militants to drop guns and talk even as it blacklisted their relatives for issuance of Haj passports. "Adventurism, deceit and converting politics into trade has been the trait of PDP and its leadership since its inception... They traded miseries of people to attain the Chief Ministership of the State," he said. Omar said former Union Minister George Fernandes was witness to Sayeed's manipulations to get his trusted man Jagmohan appointed as the Governor of the State. "Ask George Fernandes how Mufti (Sayeed) manipulated bringing in Jagmohan as the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir to pave the way for him (Mufti) to become the Chief Minister of the State," he said. Omar also accused Sayeed of conspiring against the then National Conference-Congress coalition during the 1987 elections by campaigning for opposition candidates despite being Pradesh Congress Committee chief. "He (Mufti) was the person who as PCC chief tried his best to defeat NC-Congress coalition then. People are witnessed to the fact how he, even being the JK PCC chief, was campaigning for Muslim United Front candidates," he said. Omar said instead of making tall claims, he believes in quietly going about his job. "We are not making noise over issues but deliver on these through actions," he said, adding that 40 bunkers have been removed from Srinagar city alone during last three years. Referring to the opposition criticism that the Government has ignored the summer capital, Omar said during the tenure of PDP, Srinagar city was the worst sufferer on development front, especially people living in Shaher-e-Khas (old city). "PDP launched police recruitment through Director General of Police in entire Valley but isolated Srinagar. We made direct recruitments in the city covering seven Assembly segments recruiting over 2,000 youth in police department after a period of 22 years," he said. |
