| BJYM's fad for publicity: last year's pic with 'meeting' held on Sunday | | |  Early Times Report
Jammu, May 14: Youth wing of BJP BJYM was prompt enough on Sunday to react and criticize the Government over detainment of VHP and Bajrang Dal activists from proceeding ahead towards Baltal in Sonamarg for holy pilgrimage of Amarnath. The reaction was only on expected lines , given the stand the youth wing has been adopting on such matters with assertion. It is different matter the argument they gave in criticizing Government move had any rationality and logic or not. It, however, managed to do its job of among the first to rally behind Bajrang Dal activists and therefore gain some coverage on that.
While the youth wing of BJP did all this with promptness and in line with the policy of the parent organization, what came to be seen as their 'smartness' was the attachment of a picture with the press release loaded with reaction and details of the meeting the leaders had convened on emergency basis over the development. In the press release it was mentioned that BJYM leaders convened meeting in the party headquarters at Kachhi Chawni. So far so good. But when the attachment of picture was opened it reflected a picture of the prominent functionaries of the youth wing of BJP , standing up there in rows , so to say on the stairs. The picture was not genuine and of the meeting they mentioned in the press release was clear from its frame for more than one reason.
One that there are no stairs in the BJP office where the BJYM leaders could have taken what appeared a 'posed' picture. What raised doubts in the minds of some media persons before it could be used was the fact that one of the senior functionaries in the picture is seen displaying some document, which in this case was not needed nor was any mention in the news item. When contacted the sources confirmed it was the picture taken last year when almost around the same issue related to Amaranth Yatra the BJYM had meeting with then Divisional Commissioner and they had submitted a memorandum to him highlighting the demands. It is that copy of memorandum which one of the leaders is displaying with a sense of 'achievement' .
One wonders what was the need of attaching the picture with the press release on Sunday which was not real one and remotely connected with the meeting they held in party headquarters yesterday. The only motive in doing so is the publicity and desire to be in the pages of newspapers , no matter whether the picture is needed or not. And in their desperation and desire for publicity , the press secretary of BJYM has tried to befool not only the media but the readers as a whole by sending the one year old picture as attachment with the press release related to development on Sunday, May 13. One can only say desire and craving for publicity is ok but it doesn't behove well for the youth wing of a national party to take media and masses for a ride by sending old pictures.
