Jammu, May 14: Scams and irregularities at regular intervals have become something routine in the fucntioning of the NC led coalition government in the state. But the manner scams after scams are surfacing, it appears that only Congress ministers at the helm of affairs have done something wrong and abberations have been registered only in the departments taken care of by the Congress ministers. No matter COngress is a divided house here in Jammu and Kashmir but as a one unit it is wondering and "raising eyebrows" if there is a deep rooted conspiracy of maligning the image of Congress Ministers.....?
While law will take its time to ascertain the fact that whether the accused Congress Ministers are guilty or not in corruption related activities, sources in Congress circle revealed that party leaders including ministers, MLAs and former Ministers are fuming as why scams are surfacing only in the departments held by Congress Ministers.
"There are certain things which are not digestible as it seems there are certain vested interest in the government that are hell bent to tarnish the image of Congress among the general public. In past about two years, only Congress leaders are being targeted. May be, even Congress has failed to realize as it continues to remain as a divided house despite intervention of party high command," pointed out a senior Congress leader, pleading anonymity.
"Are the things all okay in other departments held by non Congress Ministers. Are they working in such a transparent manner that there are no chances of corruption by the officials at helm of affairs," pointed out another senior leader of Congress.
The recent scam surfaced two days ago on May 12th, where in the State Accountability Commission issued notice to Congress Minister Manohar Lal Sharma in connection with the multi-crore scam in Jammu and Kashmir Cooperatives Housing Corporation.
A complaint was filed by Sunil Sharma and Farooq Ahmed Dar against Sharma, Wani and Abbas alleging that probe revealed embezzlement worth Rs 5000 crores has been committed by former MD Brij Mohan Sharma and present incumbent Bharat Bhushan Sharma.
Likewise, on August 26th, 2010, Minister for Roads and Buildings (R&B), Ghulam Mohammad Saroori was sacked after he refused to heed a Congress directive to resign in the wake of a row over alleged use of an impersonator by his daughter during a medical entrance test.
Couple of months later, serious charges of favoritism was leveled against a senior Congress Minister from Kashmir valley. On February 11th, 2012, Minister for Education, Peerzada Mohammad Sayed, was indicted by the state police's Crime Branch for helping his foster son to clear the Class X examination in 2009. Following allegations, he sent his resignation to the Congress high command following which, the portfolio of Education ministry was taken back by the chief minister Omar Abdullah. He however continued as Minister in the council of ministers in NC-Congress coalition. |
