Early Times Report

Srinagar, May 15: After a gap of 22-long year, gates of 400-year-old Vitaal Bhairav Mandir in the downtown Srinagar, reopened today again for devotees, who came from different parts of the Kashmir valley and Jammu region.
However, the Rainawari Action Forum (RAF) and All Parties Migrant Coordination Committee (APMCC), who jointly took the renovation, repair and cleaning of the mandir said this would not have been possible without the cooperation of local muslim brethern of Rainawari locality in the down town city. This was the second major temple in Rain awari area of the city which was thrown open for devotees after more than two decades.
A large number of Kashmiri pandits and Muslims were present when the gates of the mandir were reopened today. Chairman of the APMCC Vinod Pandit and Ravi Ragu of RAF said the mandir was allegedly sold by some so called sadhus after they were given Power of Attorney by some self styled Kashmiri pandit leaders.
They said the mandir was 400 years old which has religious and hitorical importance. Before the migrantion of Kashmiri pandits from the Kashmir valley in early 90s, thousands of Pandits were visiting the mandir from different parts of the valley. Expressing concern over the illegal occupation of temples and other property belonging to temple in the Kashmir valley, they said more temples would be opened with the cooperation of muslim brethern.
Crit icising government for failing to protect the temples and other property of mandirs, Pandit said property worth crores of rupees was sold illegally by land mafia with active support of politicians and some vested interests from Pandit community. Demanding immediate implementation of Temple Ordinance Bill, he said those responsible for illegal sale and encroachment of temple land and other property should be brought to book.
