Public hearing for environment clearance of BHEP Phase II held | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 15: Jammu and Kashmir State Pollution Control Board (JKSPCB) organized a Public hearing for the environment clearance of Baghlihar Hydro Electric Project (BHEP) Phase II ( 450 MW) under EIA Notification 2006 and subsequent amendments there of, of Ministry of Environment and Forests, New Delhi at Chanderkote in District Ramban. While initiating the proceedings of Public Hearing, the Regional Director Jammu JKSPCB Shaukat Chaudhary briefed the gathering regarding the importance of conducting Public Hearing. Narayan Mengi Chief Engineer (Civil) JKSPDC briefed the general public about the salient features of BHEP Phase II which was followed by a detailed presentation by M/s Mantec Consultants Pvt Ltd, New Delhi detailing out the proposed preventive measures that will be adopted for protecting the environment during and after the construction of the project. Public Hearing was chaired by addl. district magistrate, Ramban B A Khan. A large number of the people of the surrounding areas participated in the Public Hearing and aired their views and apprehension about the proposed BHEP II. About 10 persons presented their views on the occasion which were duly recorded and the same will be submitted to Ministry of Environment and Forests for further necessary action. |
