| Akhnoor zone excels with record 4 titles | | Inter-zone boys' competitions of Jammu district conclude | |

JAMMU, May 15: Akhnoor zone boys emerged as champion in four disciplines thereby making their presence felt in the two-day inter-zone competition of kho-kho, kabaddi and volleyball for under-14 and under-17 age groups on the concluding day at Government Higher Secondary School, Domana, near here.
Akhnoor boys made a clean sweep in kho-kho event, winning boys' under-14 and under-17 titles. It was followed by their win in volleyball under-14 and kabaddi under-17 finals this afternoon. However, Jammu zone failed to open their account when they were beaten by Gandhi Nagar zone in kabaddi under-14 title clash. Another title of under-17 volleyball went to Khour zone, who beat Akhnoor zone in straight sets in the final. Now, the winner of zonal events shall represent Jammu district in the inter-district provincial level competitions. Meanwhile, a handout issued here today informed that the two-day girls' competition in under-14 and under-17 age groups shall start tomorrow at the same venue. This competition is being organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS).

UNDER-14 Year: KHO-KHO: Akhnoor zone bt Bhalwal zone by 10 points (15-05). Semifinals: Akhnoor bt Miran Sahib by three points (12-09) and Bhalwal zone bt Khour zone by one turn and three points. VOLLEYBALL: Akhnoor zone bt Bhalwal zone in straight sets. Semifinals: Akhnoor bt Miran Sahib 2-0 and Bhalwal bt Bishnah zone again 2-0. KABADDI: Ganghi Nagar zone bt Jammu zone by seven points (27-20). Semifinals: Jammu bt Akhnoor by one point (20-19) and Gandhi Nagar bt Bhalwal zone by four points (40-36).
UNDER-17 Year: KABADDI: Akhnoor zone bt Satwari zone by 21 points (37-16). Semifinals: Akhnoor bt Bhalwal zone by 15 points (55-40) and Satwari bt Dansal zone by 14 points (37-33). VOLLEYBALL: Khour zone bt Akhnoor zone in straight sets. Semifinals: Akhnoor bt Arnia zone 2-1 and Khour bt Marh zone 2-0. KHO-KHO: Akhnoor zone bt Jammu zone by two points. Semifinals: Akhnoor bt Bhalwal zone by one turn and one point and Jammu bt Gandhi Nagar zone by one turn and two points. |
