President CCI attends national convention of CAIT

JAMMU, May 15: President, Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) Y V Sharma along with Junior Vice President CCI, Anil Gupta attended two days National Convention of Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) at New Delhi on 10th and 11th May 2012.
The trade leaders from about 23 states including Delhi, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pardesh, West Bengal, Karnatka, Chhatisgarh, Bihar and Andhra Pradesh etc. participated in the convention.
The convention urged upon the Union Government to formulate a policy for bringing reforms and restructuring the retail trade and also demanded formation of National Commission to study the problems of retail sector in the wake of global competition.
In unanimous resolution adopted in the conference it was observed that the Food Safety and Standards Act in the present form will prove a nightmare for the small and medium food business operators and demanded formation of an expert committee to examine the issue.
Regarding the issue of FDI in retail, it was urged upon the government to review the policy in the wake of strong opposition by the trade as well as state governments and political parties. The government while acknowledging the ground realties should formulate a National Policy for Retail Trade.
At the conclusion of the two days National Convention organized by CAIT it was decided to launch a national campaign across the country on Food Safety and standards Act, FDI in retail and single point GST in India and delivery based trading in forward exchanges and to conduct the campaign 11 members National Committee was formed.
The convention also decided to launch a signature campaign all over the country on the above issues and the collected signatures will be submitted to the Prime Minister. It was also decided to submit Memorandum to all the MPs, MLAs and Chief Ministers of all the states in this regard.
