Students protest against shortage of teachers, block road at Dadpath | | | early times report Kishtwar, May 15: Students of government high school and middle school at Tagod in Kishtwar today held a protest at Dadpath, Chhatroo, against the shortage of teachers in their schools. They were joined by village sarpanch Sewa Ram and locals who shouted slogans against education department, PHE, PMGSY and health department. They alleged that there were only four teachers in the two schools for nearly 350 students. These teachers too attended the school on alternate days, they alleged. The students also demanded the cancellation of the transfer order of ReT teacher Romesh Kumar who was transferred from high school, Tagod. They said a panel of 45 ReT teachers was prepared by the education department about six months back but director school education was not allegedly clearing the list. If these 45 teachers were posted, the shortage of teachers would be over, they said. They also stopped MLA, (Inderwal) G M Saroori who was going to Chhatroo to address a function and brought to his notice their problems. They said apart from shortage of teachers, Tagod faced drinking water problem and did not have a doctor. They also expressed their concern over the delay in work on Dadpath-Tagod road being constructed under PMGSY and damages caused to Yachhar temple due to the construction of road. They demanded immediate repairs of the temple. The sarpanch said quality material be used for the construction of a canal (kool) at Tagod. After the MLA assured the protesters that he would take up their demands with the concerned authorities, they dispersed peacefully. |
