State spends lavishly on their residences
Ministers, bureaucrats punch holes in State exchequer

JAMMU, May 15: Not only the Ministers, bureaucrats also punch holes in the State exchequer. Both the `revered' species spend hefty sums on renovation of their houses.
According to official figures, between 2010 to 2012 lakhs of rupees have been spent on the renovation of Government quarters of IAS officers which include Madhav Lal and SS Kapur as Rs 1.96 lakh, whereas senior IAS officer Khurshid Ahmed Ganai, who is now retired, has spent Rs 4.18 lakh.
The repairing work on BR Sharma's bungalow cost the State Rs 4.47 lakh while Government spent Rs 4.62 lakh on renovation of Gazanffar Hussain's bungalow.
IAS officer, Suresh Kumar's residence cost the State Rs 3.69 lakh between 2010-12.
Moreover, on the residence of Asgar Samoon, the State spent Rs 3.87 and on the residential complex of MK Bhandari Rs 2.10 lakh have been spent till date.
The Government has spent Rs 0.92 lakhs on renovation of Shant Mannu's residence, whereas on Nasima Lankar bungalow Rs 1.53 lakh have been spent.
Similarly, according to records, the Government spent Rs 1.82 lakhs and Rs 1.16 lakhs on renovation of bungalows of Pawan Kotwal and Tanveer Jehan respectively.
Furthermore on the renovation of Farooq Ahmed’s house the expenditure was Rs 0.035 lakh and that of GA Peer was Rs 0.45 lakh. The repair charges on the residential complex of Syed Fazal Ullah was Rs 2.01 lakh and on the renovation of the bungalow of Mohd Hamid Wani Rs 4.30 lakh were spent.
The records revealed that around Rs 60 lakh were spent on the Chief Minister's residence at Jammu during the past three years. Renovation of Deputy Chief Minister's residence cost the state Rs 20 lakhs.
Moreover, former Minister for Education Peerzada Muhammad Syed has expended Rs 13.85 lakh during this period and on the residence of Minister for Higher Education Nasir Aslam Wani the Government has spent Rs 20.45 lakh in four years.
