Govt employees to go on three-day strike from May 24

Jammu, May 16: The Jammu and Kashmir Government Employees Association today announced a three-day strike in protest against the government's failure to fulfil their demands of increase in retirement age and regularisation of daily wagers.
"We have announced a three-day strike of all government employees from May 24 to May 26 in support of our demands of increase in retirement age and regularisation of daily wagers by the J-K Government", leader of Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) of Employees Associations, Ram Kumar Sharma told reporters here today.
"We urge over 4.5 lakh employees of the government to take part in the strike and make it successful so that the government fulfils our long-pending demands which they had agreed earlier but not implemented", he said.
There will be a total pen down strike for three days and on May 25, employees will gherao Civil Secretariat and will march to Raj Bhavan on May 26 to hold protest demonstration in support the demands, he said.
Flanked by other leaders of JCC-- Kulwant Singh, Ganesh Khajuria, Moulvi Munir, Balwan Singh Jamwal, Sharma expressed concern over the indefinite attitude of the state government towards employees and their demands.
It may be recalled that state government employees had gone on two days strike on May 8 and 9 in support of their demands.The strike call was given by the Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) of employees and supported several Associations, federations and forum of Government departments, PSUs and corporations.
JCC is demanding enhancement in age from 58 to 60 years, payment of pending 6th pay commission arrears, removal of pay anomalies, regularisation of daily wagers and contractual employees and other demands.
"We want that government should frame a policy on casual, seasonal and daily wagers who have completed seven years of their services," he said.
