Several measures being taken to ensure hassle free pilgrimage to Amarnath | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 16: While the police authorities have decided to set up 20 more security check posts, when compared to the last year, right from Lakhanpur to Pahalgam, over half a dozen tour operators and travel agents have announced series of packages for the pilgrims to the holy cave of Amaranth in Kashmir. The registration for the annual yatra, beginning from June 25, has started from May 7 and during the last one week over 1.40 lakh pilgrims have been registered indicating that more than four lakh pilgrims may visit the shrine, considered as abode of Lord Shiva and his consort Parvati. The Amarnath Shrine Board officials said that increased rate of registration of pilgrims has been the result of increased facilities provided by the Board for registration. They said that besides over 75 branches of Jammu and Kashmir Bank and Cooperative Banks 100 post offices have been assigned the task of registering pilgrims. Tour and travel operators have included sight seeing in Kashmir in the package for the pilgrims. Besides this the Board has already announced 40 per cent reduction in helicopter fare. The Board officials expect a heavy rush of pilgrims making it to the holy cave by helicopters. The state Government has directed the Power Development Department, Health services, Telecom authorities to make adequate arrangements for supply of power at the base camp at Pahalgam, Baltal and Jammu. The Department of Health has been asked to set up as many camps as possible right from Jammu to Pahalgam and from Baltal to the cave. Each health camp should have oxygen cylinders available. A special team of traffic and civil police was being constituted to monitor activities of transporters at Jammu, Srinagar, Pahalgam and Baltal to ensure that these transporters did not resort to overcharging. Rate lists for bus, car and taxi fares would be displayed at all major stands. In addition to this rate list for ponywallas and porters would also b displayed at Balt al and Pahalgam so that there were no cases of fleecing of pilgrims. Police and paramilitary forces were being issued inst ructions to prevent unregistered pilgrims from travelling to Pahalgam for the yatra. |
