early times report
Jammu, May 16: From light jokes to satirical drawings and sharp comments on politics, state of bureaucracy, current events and issues like corruption and even contours of Kashmir problem, to day to day happenings in coalition government's functioning Abhay until recently would make us all laugh and smile in the morning with his sharp wit and ability in the "LIGHTER SIDE" , which became his hallmark in the columns of Early Times. Gifted with the talent of making cartoons and ability to reach a variety of people of all ages and gender, Abhay knew well how to inject some fun into life, particularly through the two characters in this regular column. But his fans and admirers would miss this all as Abhay left for heavenly abode today after remaining ill for some time. Early Times, its management and staff pays tributes to the great artist who filled colour and fun in the pages with his talent . Abhay was known for his wit, punch in humour and had a vast following of fans and friends, in the country and abroad. Unfortunately he developed autoimmune (Non-alcoholic) cirrhosis of liver and could not be retrieved from severe liver damage. He died of liver failure today despite best medical efforts. He is survived by his father, two sisters, wife, son and a daughter. What is so unique and praiseworthy about this cartoonist is that despite the fact lacked speech power, his communication skills were sharper than normal people. He would impress one and all with his amiable qualities and his focused work in which he used both good drawing abilities as well as his ability to interpret developments on socio economic front and even serious political issues. Creativity and intelligence reflected in his pieces of work, regardless of the type of cartoon and situation he would depict through characters. His untimely demise has come as shock to his fans and admirers. ET staff and management expresses heartfelt condolences and sympathies with the bereaved family. Abhay Sahi son of Dr Mrs Aruna and Col (Retd) Dr Virendra K Sahi, was born on June 25, 1976 at Allahabad (UP). He lost his hearing at very tender age of 10 months in a medical mishap of antibiotic toxicity. He, however, completed his schooling and did ITI training through lip reading but could not get employment. Un-defeated, he took to art and earned big fame as a free lance cartoonist. His cartoons appeared in few magazines and leading news papers from time to time and were selected at national level for display during last general elections. He got married to Tina, daughter of Th Bishan Singh Billowria of Basohli.
