| Special posts designed for accommodating blue-eyed | | Favoritism galore in JU; established norms are ignored | | early times report
Jammu, May 16: Strange are the ways and means of Jammu University (JU) administration. The top officials here are brazenly misusing their official position to violate the established norms of the University so as to accommodate their blue-eyed on the prize posts. The office of Registrar is working on its own whims and fancies which is evident from the recent transfers.
This afternoon University effected transfers on some key positions which have raised eyebrows of many. The Special Secretary to Vice Chancellor Neeraj Sharma, whose name was figured in the inquiry committee report, has been made Official on Special Duty (OSD) Finance. Strangely, the position never existed before. In another interesting move, Joint Registrar (Finance) Jai Kumar Sharma has been made OSD to Vice Chancellor. It has been learnt from the reliable sources that Mr Sharma shares good repo with the Vice Chancellor. Hence, he is rewarded.
Besides, Joint Registrar, Colleges Development Council (CDC) and Additional Controller Examination Sanjeev Mahajan have been asked to swap their places. In another decision, Er Anik Gupta of Physics and Electronic Department has been given the charge of Centre for IT Enabled Services and Management alongwith the Computer Centre. Whereas, Prof Devanand Padha (Elder brother of Registrar Prof. Naresh Padha) is deputed as Advisor to Vice Chancellor on computer related matters.
In the University Council meet, the Chancellor N N Vohra handed over enquiry report that was conducted by the team headed by Chief Secretary exposing the misdeeds of the University officials. The Chancellor had directed the Vice Chancellor to take necessary actions on the misdeeds highlighted in the report.
The Vice Chancellor instead of nailing the reported people has started offering them prize postings. According to learned sources, the Special Secretary of the Vice Chancellor Neeraj Sharma was categorically pin pointed in the inquiry report. Instead of sending Neeraj back to his original position of Deputy Registrar he has been gifted the position of OSD Finance. Since he could not be made Joint Registrar Finance so post of OSD Finance has been specially created for him. Sources added that it all happened because he enjoys close proximity with the Registrar.
Er Anik Gupta is also a close friend of Registrar. He was made Incharge Director of the Computer Centre last year. After six month, the office of Registrar realized that Gupta was not eligible for the post and the fact can entangle the situation. As a modification of previous order, Gupta's designation of Incharge Director has been withdrawn. The new order says that Er Anik Gupta is holding the charge of Computer Centre. Actually, this position is meant for Professor. But right now no one In University can challenge the orders issued by Registrar Office.
Sources close to Vice Chancellor revealed that Vice Chancellor is acting on the advise of Registrar. "The things are happening on the ideas of Registrar. Strangely, Vice Chancellor is not aware of his designs. But, this is openly visible that nears and dears of Registrar are being accommodated as per his wish. It has caused strong resentment among the University fraternity", he added.
