Fissures in Kishtwar Congress come to fore
Youth wing elections postponed
5/17/2012 11:41:15 PM
Kishtwar, May 16: Fissures in Kishtwar Congress came to fore today when the activists of rival factions `washed dirty linen in public'. The incident led to postponement of Youth Congress elections.
According to reports, Azad loyalists assembled outside the polling booth in Tourist Reception Center and expressed dismay over the voter list. The list reflected the strength of Congress in Kishtwar. It has just 17 registered voters.
The agitating Youth Congress leaders alleged irregularities in the electoral list of Youth Congress for Kishtwar Constituency. While protesting, the youth Congress activists displayed records showing 580 forms submitted by Azad group to higher authorities at the time of submission of electoral forms.
They alleged that all the 17 Youth Congress activists whose names have been shown in the list belong to Soz group led by former District President Congress Kishtwar Pardeep Singh Parihar and former Youth Congress President Kishtwar Sheikh Nasir Hussain.

Amid strong protests, Assistant Returning Officer (ARO) of Congress party for Kishtwar Constituency Karamjeet Singh announced postponement of elections for Kishtwar Constituency till further orders. However, the election for Inderwal Constituency of Kishtwar District was held smoothly.

He said that due to some technical error the name of few Youth Congress activists could not make to the final list. He said that within a day or two, the revised voter list will be issued and accordingly the fresh dates for election will be announced.

Even though the party had announced ban on visit of senior party functionaries outside polling station, senior Congress leaders of both Azad as well as from Soz group remained very much present.

Meanwhile, Youth Congress president Sheikh Nasir Hussain, showed his displeasure over postponement of elections. He termed it unjustified and unconstitutional. He blamed Congress MLA from Inderwal Ghulam Mohammad Saroori and his brother for creating trouble in today's polling. He also accused Congress MLA of misusing his official Red light vehicle.

He urged the election commissioner Sachin Naik, LRO Rana Harinder Singh and AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi to take action against all those who tried to hamper the poll process. In support of his demand, the Youth Congress faction of Soz group claimed that more than the minimum required booth level delegates had filed nomination and the symbols were also allotted.
As per Soz group of Youth Congress, the voter list was also displayed on website and recently near about two weeks time was given for filing of nominations with May 12 as closing date.

The Youth Congress workers have demanded that the result of Kishtwar Assembly be also announced so that the process for electing state, Lok Sabha and Assembly head is not delayed and the youths of far flung and backward areas of the district also get a chance to participate in political process.
Youth leader Suman Thakur in his outburst blamed LRO Rana Harinder Singh and others for creating mess in Youth Congress voting list in Kishtwar district. Suman is the nephew of senior Congress leader Thakur Jughal Bhandari and is considered close to Azad group. He blamed former Youth Congress President Kishtwar and former District President Congress for hurting the party image.
He said that both the leaders fail to play its part to extend the party base among the youths of Kishtwar district. Suman said that blocking of 580 forms of Youth Congress activists is an injustice with those who are committed for party. He hailed the decision of postponement of elections by ARO Karamjeet Singh and said that the decision will help to get the youth flock together. He said that even in short span of time Youth Congress activists managed to deposit 580 forms for party enrolment. He said that in a deep rooted conspiracy at behest of some party leaders who are working against the party will, the names of more than 500 youth activists were stopped to enter into the final list. He said that similar things happen in Inderwal constituency, where more than 3600 youths applied for the membership out of which only about 700 youths made to the final list. He demanded an independent probe against the party activists involved in fudging the voter list of Youth Congress in Kishtwar district.
