Finally DIG turns care taker to defunct x-ray machines | | SUMIT SHARMA | 5/18/2012 10:50:42 AM |
| Jammu, May 17: The recent communication from Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Armed Jony William who reportedly wrote to Director General of Police (DGP) Kuldeep Khoda apprising him that the defunct X-Ray scanning machine installed at Jammu Railway Station, has made it apparent that all is not well at the one of most visited railway station in Northern india which is facing sheer neglect of concerned authorities. If the sources are be believed, DGP sought report of the security check up at Jammu Railway Station after reports of the laxity by GRP published in some section of media and for the purpose, he constituted a survey team headed by DIG Armed Jony William who gave details of security cover up at Jammu Railway Station. The DIG in its report prepared, sources said, has demanded new X Ray Scanner machines for Jammu railway station at the earliest to thwart any untoward incident. Pertinent to mention here that the X Ray Scanning machine had been closed down for couple of weeks and no one stationed at the entrance for routine security duty for scanning either any luggage or frisking passengers before boarding the trains for their forward journey. The much hyped Railway Station modernization plan is awaiting approval of Central Railway Board as it has so far not given nod to the Detailed project Report (DPR) sent by Divisional office Jammu. Pertinent to mention here that over 50,000 daily passengers visit the Jammu Railway Station which is one of the busiest railway stations of the country but gives an unhealthy portrait with the deteriorating conditions, inside and around the station. It is pertinent to mention that Jammu Railway Station is one of the 40-model stations, caters to more than 50 lakh passengers every year, but it still sans the required facilities. The passengers mostly heading towards Vaishno Devi shrine face problem of basic facilities viz insufficient numbers of benches, absence of coolies. "For last 10 years I am visiting Jammu to pay obeisance at the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine but it is irritating that despite having passengers on such a large quantity the developmental work is overlooked at JRS since there nothing to be entitled as a good place where one can rest. The busiest railway stations of the northern region welcomes the tourists with all the dirt and garbage out there", said Uttam Kuamr from Utter Pradesh a frequent visitor to holy cave shrine. Interestingly, a multi-storey building project purposed in 2006 with an intention to provide all the facilities to the passengers, together with restaurants, restrooms, waiting room and recreational hall seems yet to get nod. |
