Jammu continues to grope in dark…swelters during day | Who will wake up ministers in cozy environs….? | Early Times Report | 5/18/2012 10:56:18 AM |
| Jammu, May 17: Come summers and Jammu is all made to face it in severest and harshest manner- the power curtailments , that too in unscheduled pattern. It is May, just the beginning of summer and Jammu is experiencing the cuts in electricity supply arbitrarily , perhaps in severest intensity, with no control over the number of hours different localities plunge in darkness in the evening or sweat and fret in the peak of heat during day time. Visit any locality of Jammu, the roaring generator sets on business establishments and shops greet you at any odd time, courtesy PDD authorities who take no pains in devising a proper schedule for loadshedding Jammu is facing for the last over two weeks in most erratic manner. While entire Jammu gropes in dark in the evening and night and grouses during the day over erratic power supply and low voltage menace, PDD authorities have no clue nor proper system to handle the crisis or manage it evenly in all the areas. Thankfully so, there is no discrimination under the present scenario between metered and unmetered areas for both face the power crisis in equal magnitude. Giving actually no heed nor any response to growing outcry of affected people or the occasional interventions from some political parties, PDD authorities are giving no clear picture about the reason of this sudden shortfall nor do they appear to have any idea of time it will take normal supply with routine or scheduled loadshedding in place. Technical snag in Salal project and the increased load from consumers is the general cause which is being given to understand but there are ways that need to be explored to provide optimum power in this scorching and grilling hot summer. As June is approaching, sultry hot days ahead and the very thought of no power amid rising mercury drives one mad. Now what drives people crazy in the indifferent and callous attitude of its own representatives, many of them ministers in the ruling coalition who have simply turned deaf ear to the crisis entire Jammu is reeling under for quite some days. Most of them are in Srinagar and therefore completely oblivious of the sufferings and pain of the people without power , which has affected all facets of normal life. Those on visit to Jammu are also far away from impact of the power crisis for they enjoy special lines in respective areas and therefore have no idea of the miseries inflicted upon the common masses outside the cozy environs of their residences. One wonders at this blissful ignorance and uncaring attitude which is in total contrast to what Kashmir based ministers and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah himself adopts under such circumstances when people face power crisis in Kashmir Valley. No matter what is the cause and no matter the serious nature of the technical snags, they mean to act and act swiftly to provide relief and succor to the people, even if it is for political considerations. Recent crisis faced in parts of Kashmir when the power supply was snapped due to windstorm is the instance when Omar in no time announced whatever it would take, extraordinary effort or money, gas turbines be put to use to restore power supply. Should this be enough to wake up the Jammu based ministers ………? |
