Undeterred by Govt threat VHP all set to start yatra on June 4
Early Times Report5/18/2012 10:57:38 AM
JAMMU, May 17: Undeterred by Government's threat to foil the VHP bid to start the Amarnath pilgrimage on June 4, the VHP today reiterated that the first jatha of yatra will elave from Jammu on June 3 to have darshan at holy cave on Jesht Purnima.
The VHP is committed to start the yatra on June 3 and run it for complete two months as per Puranic tradition, its state general secretary, Dr Sham Lal along with city president, Dr V K Gupta and city secretary S R Sharma told reporters here today.
Ridiculing the Government's move to stop the yatra and use force against it he said that this will have serious repercussion across the country and advised the Government to refrain from making such statements as use of force against the yatra will prove counter productive.
Dr Sham accused the Governor N N Vohra who heads Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) of creating unnecessary controversy on Amarnath yatra after he took over in 2008 and since then the yatra was curtailed by throwing the recommendations of Nitrish Sen Gupta and Mookerjee Committee to dust bin.
The yatra was run for two months from times immemorial and this continued even during the period when militancy was on peak in Valley but suddenly after Mr Vohra took over in 2008 the Board changed the schedule and duration of the yatra evoking a widespread criticism and resentment against the State Government and the Board. The VHP leader wanted to know when there is no curtailment in tough Kailash Mansarowar Yatra why the Government is every time trying to create controversy on holy Amarnath yatra.
He while reiterating the VHP resolve that yatra will run as per Hindu tradition and there will be no shift in its date and schedule, said that a Mahasamelan as per schedule will be held at Jammu on May 20 in which besides Jagat Guru Shankaracharya, Vasudevanand Ji, Bhadrik Peeth Ashram, Mahamandleshwar Gyananand Ji Maharaj of Bindraban who is also member of SASB Sub Committee and international leader of VHP Ashok Singhal will participate.
He said the VHP will not allow curtailment of Amarnath yatra on the behest of separatists and 21,000 Bajrangis will reach Jammu on June 2 to leave for holy cave next day at any cost.
It may be recalled that the Government on May 15 had said that it will stop the yatra on June 4 and will not allow any one to take law into its own hands. Even to assist the stat police the Government has decided to utilize the services of Punjab Police also.
It said that no advance yatra will be allowed and the first batch will only leave for holy cave on June 25 which is being opposed by VHP and other Hindu bodies who said that Government and Board has no right to decide the duration and time of the yatra and same be left to Hindu bodies.
