Sadhotra has accused Mufti Sayeed of failure to raise revenue to the tune of Rs. 50,000 crores from natural resources. He also accused Mufti of failure to implement his healing touch policy.
Without advocating Mufti's cause here, it may be mentioned that National Conference has ruled the state for decades together. The NC governments never raised revenue from the natural resources sufficient to cater to the needs of the state. And, if NC could not do it in decades, how could Mufti do it in three years?
On the contrary, loot and plunder of natural resources has always registered an increase whenever NC has ruled the state.
Mufti may not have succeeded in applying balm on the wounds of the people but during his tenure, minors were not arrested and detained under Public Safety Act (PSA).
It is also an established fact that the situation remained, by and large, peaceful during his tenure. There was no agitation and innocents were not killed.
The Farooq led NC government formed the special operations group and extended POTA to the state. It was Mufti who disbanded the SOG and suspended POTA.
As far as popularity of NC is concerned, Sadhotra better go to the people. A party that enjoyed 2/3 majority in 1996 was reduced to 28 seats in 2002 elections. The NC could not improve its position in 2008 elections which means the NC popularity is on decline. |
