Militants carving out hideouts in remote areas of JK | | Early Times Report | 5/18/2012 9:28:29 PM |
| JAMMU, May 17: Efforts were being made at carving out hideouts for militants, belonging to Lashkar-i-Toiba and Hizbul Mujahideen outfits, in Doda and Kishtwar districts. Police sources said that a number of encounters between the militants and the security forces and killing of half a dozen rebels and arrest of an equal number of militants in Doda and Kishtwar districts during the last three months have indicated that militants were trying to establish their bases in the remote areas of not only Doda and Kishtwar but in Rajouri, Poonch and Reasi belts. Reports said that militants were trying to re-establish their bases in various areas in south Kashmir, which had been sanitised against insurgency a year ago. According to police sources, this was being done to assist groups of militants in carrying out gun and grenade attacks on vital Government installations, security pickets and political leaders. Sources said that after sustained counter insurgency operations in the districts of Baramulla and Kupwara the activities of militants had been contained and in various areas of the two towns of Kupwara and Baramulla, including Sopore, militants had been on the run and others had surrendered before the security forces. However, attempts were being made to push groups of militants, who have been brought on the launch pads across Kupwara, Keran, Tangdhar and even Uri, into Kashmir for giving teeth to the incidents of subversive violence. That militants had been brought the launch pads across Uri for infiltrating into Kashmir became evident when four militants were killed by the Indian troops on the LOC in Uri recently. It is in this connection that instructions have been issued to the security forces, including the troops and the state police, that the security grid be further upgraded not only on the LOC and the IB but within the state, especially in the districts of Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch, Rajouri, Pulwama, Anantnag, Kupwara and Baramullah where militants were trying to resurface with a bang. |
