Govt. to create 'Corpus Fund' for artists: Jora | Would also institute 'state awards in music' | Early Times Report | 5/19/2012 12:23:57 PM |
| SRINAGAR, May 18 : Minister for tourism and culture, Nawang Rigzin Jora today announced that his department would create a corpus fund for bettering the living conditions of the artist community of the state. The minister made this remark at an interactive session of members of performing art community held at Academy headquarters here on Friday.Explaining the concept the minister said that to begin with a mechanism would be framed whereby tourism corporations like JKTDC and Cable Car Corporation would be directed to put some money into the corpus fund under the corporate social responsibility initiative. Echoing his senior colleague minister of state for tourism and culture, Nasir Aslam Wani said that he would see to it that private corporate houses of the state also contributed to the fund so as to ensure its viability. According to the minister the money so accumulated would be spent on ameliorating the lot of financially weak families of the artist community of the state. Commenting on the formation of the fund commissioner secretary tourism and culture, and secretary academy, Atal Dulloo said that the modalities of the proposed fund would soon be formulated. He also said that the proposed fund would be managed by a joint representative committee. Responding to the demand of instituting state music award, the minister said that this would soon be done and the award would be categorised and dedicated to stalwarts in key fields of music. Reacting to the remark of artiste, M. Amin Bhat that the Academy should enhance artist fee and should delink it from the fee being paid to the artists by the Prasar Bharti, Dulloo said that the Academy had already initiated steps in this direction. He also informed that such proposal was already under consideration of the finance committee of the Academy. The interactive session, which was attended by some noted artists like Krishan Langoo, Kaiser Nizami, Waheed Jeelani, Rehmatullah Khan, Gulzar Ahmad Ganai, Munir Ahmad Mir, and M. Amin Bhat among others witnessed a healthy debate |
