| Jammu, May 18: Tawishi Eco Club of GDC Bishnah adopted village Naugran in tehsil Bishnah under the supervision of Prof. Preeti Dogra, Convener Tawishi Eco Club for recording the biodiversity of the area under National Environment Awareness Campaign (NEAC) - 2011-12 resourced by the Ministry of Environment and Forests through WWF under the guidance of Dr. C.M. Seth, chairman WWF. Dr. Suman Charak introduced the institution to her native village Naugran and initiated the proceedings of the programme. Prof. Preeti Dogra introduced the main theme of the programme "Forests for the sustainable livelihood" and highlighted the importance of Conservation of Biodiversity and Organic farming to the villagers. Students of the college namely Surinder, Raghuveer, Mandeep, Monika and Lotika interacted with the leading agriculturists of the area which included Dr. Ghanshyam Singh Charak, Kapoor Singh Charak, Lambardar of the village, Kuldeep Singh Charak and around 30 villagers who provided information about the flora and fauna including the major crops and seasonal fruits and vegetables of the area. Students also made them aware about the use of bio-fertilizers and bio-pesticides for eco-friendly agriculture. Prof. Kalpana Kesar, Principal of the college addressed the people of the village and stressed upon the sustainable ecological development of the area. Prof. Anshu Andotra presented vote of thanks. Prof. Sunita Gupta, Prof. Jugal Kishore, Rajinder Singh, Naresh Kumar, Bandhu Sharma, Chanan Lal, Neelam, Surinder and Ashwani were also present on the occasion. |
