| 88 pc population provided schools within 1 Km: Peerzada | | | Jammu, January 29 Minister for Education, Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed has said with the massive expansion of educational network, 88 percent population of the state has been provided primary educational facility within an area of one kilometer. The Minister said this while addressing public meetings at Tikri, Chak Rakwalan in district Udhampur after inspecting various schools of the area. The Minister also interacted with the students and enquired from them about the availability of staff and other facilities in the schools. At Tikri Government Higher Secondary School, the Minister posed various questions to the students about mathematics. The School management informed the Minister that the school has registered 91 percent result in matriculation during last annual academic session. Referring to various measures taken up by the government to improve educational system, the Minister said that presently the state has vast network of 23000 schools with 88 percent of population having the facility of primary education within one kilometer. He said against 35 degree colleges set up during last 57 years, the coalition government has opened 22 Degree Colleges in a span of two years. He, however, regretted that despite having adequate educational facilities, the state is lagging behind in terms of literacy rate. He called for massive community awareness for supplementing efforts of the government in achieving the goal of 100 percent literacy. Giving details about the reforms introduced in the educational set up, he said thrust is being laid on consolidation of infrastructure in newly opened and upgraded schools. He said that major decisions of the government include creation of 3000 posts of Physical Education Teachers, introduction of English medium from primary level in government schools. He said considering the demands of present day world, job oriented subjects have been introduced which include computer education and other subjects having demand in the market. Peerzada said that the government is abreast with the problems due to lack of teaching staff and other facilities in schools adding that by June, this year, the process of recruitment of 10+2 Lecturers would be completed. Asserting that the situation in the state is fast returning to normal, he said coalition government after taking over the reins of administration laid thrust on restoration of peace and revival of development activities which are visible to everyone. He said since peace and development are inter-linked, the policies of government received tremendous support from the people. He said today those who were once leading the armed violence have now realized the futility of gun culture and want to participate in the peace process. The Minister also inaugurated Annual Day-cum-Prize distribution function at Indira Memorial Higher Secondary School, Rathian near Udhampur town. He lauded the efforts of school management, staff and students in particular who achieved distinctions in Board of Secondary Education during last academic session. Prizes were also distributed on the occasion to the students who excelled in academics and other activities. |
