True cricket in Jammu starts today | 3rd Prof Pran Nath Memorial Cricket Tourney | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 19: After witnessing the shortest form of entertaining cricket in all corners, cricket lovers of Jammu city shall be looking forward for real limited over game cricket to be played among recognized affiliated clubs of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) here from tomorrow onwards. This limited overs game would certainly provide the youngsters a platform to learn the basics of the game which the Twenty20 format does not. In fact, the T20 format offers the organizers an easy option to complete the ritual of holding a cricket tournament and not to promote the game in its real sense. The 20-day long event, 3rd Prof Pran Nath Malhotra Memorial Cricket Tournament shall be played on knock-out basis form tomorrow at GGM Science College Hostel ground, here. In the opening match of group-A, J&K Police XI shall take on Reasi XI at 8.30 am. Divided into two groups of 12 teams each, eight quarterfinalist teams of the 2nd edition of this tournament have been given direct entry into the second round. These teams are Rehari Cricket Club, Patel Cricket Club, Friends Cricket Club, Jammu Cricket Club (Pool-A), National Cricket Club, Kishen Chand Cricket Club, International Cricket Club and Shastri Cricket Club (Pool-B). As per the laid down rules for the competition, the participating teams have been directed to come with a minimum of 15 member squad in complete white playing kit so as to maintain sanctity of the game. Meanwhile, according to joint secretary of the Jammu wing of the JKCA, Hardev Singh the event shall be declared open by chairman of the Association, Mohd Aslam Goni at 8.30 am tomorrow. |
