Coaches continue to work under stress for 9 years
Long wait for orders despite approval

Early Times Report

JAMMU, May 19: At least 10 qualified coaches, engaged by the Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council on contractual basis in different disciplines since 2003, still wait for their permanent orders.
However, after repeated pleas at different forums, these coaches finally got approval of the highest decision making body of the Council, the Standing Committee on November 24 last. Unfortunately, the notorious Sports Council continues to hold back the permanent orders of these coaches thereby prolonging their wait. "The unprofessional working of the autonomous body of State Sports Council, especially with regard to appointment on permanent basis for those 10 well qualified individuals working since 2003 and 2005, has demoralized the whole lot of work force," said one of these coaches pleading anonymity.
He further said, "In the last meeting of the Standing Committee of the Sports Council on November 24, 2011, all the 10 coaches were absorbed on permanent basis. But to their dismay, all of them have been kept on waiting for the last six month for appointment order. Such acts of dishonesty by the high power committee, which also includes the Sports Minister, really upset us."
Engaged in the important disciplines of hockey, volleyball, swimming, judo, fencing and yoga as also gymnastics, these coaches have been demoralized the extent that they have started guiding other qualified people in sports not to jointSports Council. The sincere advice of these individuals has left its impact on the ground with all the NIS qualified men and men in recent past joined the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) as Physical Education and Teachers and Physical Education Lecturers.A good number of players with achievements prefer to join the DYSS instead of Sports Council while availing benefits under SRO 349 (excellence in sports).
